Welcome to Sunnyside!

A short story about us

We live on a small croft of just over 2 acres in Shetland. Our plans include keeping sheep for their fleece, maintaining our own bees, and growing a variety of vegetables. We are passionate about soaking up all the traditional crafts of Shetland and incorporating them into our products. We love using all natural products and strive to keep chemical interventions to a minimum.

Our Croft
Our Croft House

Our croft house, which is nearly 100 years old, was in the same family until we proudly purchased it in 2025. The land had not been actively farmed for some years, and we are dedicated to revitalizing crofting activities here at Sunnyside. Although the house requires some upgrading, it has already become our cherished home.

Hi, I am Mark.

Despite being born in South London, I have always wanted to live in more rural places. I am enjoying the opportunity to croft here in Shetland and am always learning new skills while working the land. My grandparents had bees when I was a child, so the chance to diversify our croft and add something positive to the environment is great.

Hi, I am Jaci.

As a child, my mom owned a small yarn shop and was a prolific knitter, something she has passed onto me. I am now based in Shetland, which has a rich history of knitting, and am surrounded by sheep, which has made me even more passionate about the use of British Wool, which comes through in my spinning, knitting & crochet workshops. I have even graced our TV screens twice - once as part of a segment promoting British Wool on Joe Lycett's "Got Your Back" and then teaching Robson Green to spin on his BBC2 "Weekend Escapes" programme.

I now have over 40 years experience in knitting, and design my own knitting patterns, which are available in our Shop.

I have completed the comprehensive technical editing course, run by the experienced and renowned Carol Ibbotson. I am also a member of the Knitting & Crochet Guild, as well The Shetland Guild of Spinner, Knitters, Weavers & Dyers. So I can help other designers ensure that their patterns are the best that they can be. Please see the Services for Designers section for further information on how technical editing can help you.

Hi, I am Ollie.

I am, of course, the most important member of the team (and the cutest). As a self-proclaimed feline royalty, I gracefully reside in my cozy throne, demanding attention and treats. My contributions may be minimal, but my charm is unmatched. My days are filled with naps, sunbathing, and the occasional paw on the keyboard to show my support. If you ever need inspiration, just look at my adorable face! I might not know much about knitting or crochet, but I certainly know how to beg for treats!
